FISHING
Indiantown is utopia being only 10 miles fromthe trophy catches of Lake Okeechobee, the second largest freshwater lake in the United States, and only 20 miles from deep sea fishing off Stuart, "the Sailfish Capital of the World".
Being less than an hour's drive from deep sea fishing in the Atlantic Ocean and fresh water catches in Lake Okeechobee, Indiantown is more marine-oriented than many larger towns. A few miles west, between the Indiantown Marina and the lake, are the Port Mayaca Locks, a modern gateway to Lake Okeechobee. 10 or 12 miles east are the St. Lucie Locks located at Phipps Park, a facility open to the public where ocean-going vessels and small craft alike are raised or lowered 14 feet to compensate for the difference in elevation of Indiantown and the coast. |
PUBLIC PARKS
TIMER POWERS PARK
Timer Powers Park is a sprawling 37 acre waterfront recreational facility on Citrus Boulevard on the St. Lucie Canal (Okeechobee Waterway). The property, purchased by Martin County through the "Lands for You" project rests on the banks of the Okeechobee Waterway and includes a public boat ramp, fishing pier, amphitheater, numerous pavilions, playground, and equestria arena. It also serves as the site for the Annual Indiantown Spring Festival. The park was named in honor of long time Indiantown business owner and resident, Timer Powers. Besides being involved locally in the Indiantown community, active in the Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce, on the State level Timer was instrumental in negotiations with the Seminole Indians. |
BIG MOUND PARK
Big Mound Park is located on Indian Mound Drive in Indiantown. The 21 acre sight, which recently received over $200,000 of renovations, offers five picnic pavilions with tables and grills that may be reserved for your event by contacting the Parks and Recreation Department at 288-5690. Also included at the park are three baseball diamonds, one football field, a newly developed soccer field, a lighted basketball court, and a shaded playground. The park is a great place to have a picnic or party. Restroom facilities are also available and are located in the back of the park.
The Indiantown Recreation office is located over the baseball concession stand. Included in the office are two conference/classrooms that are used for meetings and various recreation programs, and are available for rent.

THE DUPUIS HIKING TRAILS
The Dupuis Reserve State Forest encompasses 21, 875 acres of pine flatwoods, wet prairie, cypress domes, scrub cypress, and marsh in the western reach of Palm Beach and Martin Counties. The forest is home to numerous species of wildlife, including deer, turkey, quail, squirrel, fox and bobcat. A variety of waterfowl and wading birds utilize the property's abundant wetlands and are most plentiful when water levels are receding and food sources become more concentrated. Bald eagles, hawks, and owls are frequently sighted throughout the forest, and woodpeckers and song birds are common in upland areas.
